With back to school week around the corner (for some it may have started already), I thought I’d take a trip to my local library.
Public libraries are such a great and free resource for inspiration. One of the great things about living in bilingual Ottawa is its public library system and the variety of books available: new and vintage, French and English.
While Ottawa’s collection holds books like Handmade Nation and Stitch ‘N Bitch geared towards this generation’s (English-speaking) crafters, it also holds books in French and lots of older craft, art and design books from the 1970s onwards that aren’t easily accessible in bookstores or on Google Books. It’s like a whole other universe of books to choose from.
Before trekking over, you can also easily search for library books online and reserve them so that they get delivered to your nearest branch. Click here for the search results for “craft”. Once you get going with the keywords, it’s hard to stop. But it’s definitely worth the search when you find that one book with that one amazing project you never thought of.
