Thanks to everyone who came out for the September installment of Spins & Needles at the National Gallery last Thursday! We mixed the contemporary with the celebrity inspired by two of the current exhibitions at the Gallery: Thomas Nozkowski (who mixed geometry and the organic in his contemporary works) and The Art of the Celebrity Portrait (photos of famous icons taken by Yousuf Karsh and Edward Steichen).
DIY hands-on projects weren’t revealed until the last minute. . they included wet felting (superexciting!), celebrity plush icons, DIY photo frames and back-to-school bookbinding.
Here’s some highlights from the night:
DJs Jason Pelletier and Clifford Brown from Montreal hitting the decks.
This collaborative beer cozy piece from two budding artists was auctioned off (artists and two bar guys not included).
Wet felting, inspired by Nozkowski’s exhibit, which turned out awesome.
This Johnny Depp/Pirates of the Caribbean celebrity plush icon – lifelike, non?
